Why hast thou forsaken us, Daily?

When I was writing the first few posts for this blog in my head, I had the copy for The Daily all ready to go: Unfussy, welcoming decor with clean lines. An open kitchen that churns out breakfasts and lattes for hungry millennials like a sturdy little steam engine. Relaxed vibe, but gets busy so get there early for BEAUTIFUL plant-based morning yums like the breakfast pita (Israeli salad, schug, hummus), or the veggie hash. And the best part? Other than the fantastic coffee? You can sub scrambled tofu in for eggs in any dish!
Except you can't sub in scrambled tofu for eggs in any dish. Not in any dish at all. Not anymore.
Owner of The Daily Michael Shemtov is also owner of Butcher and Bee, which (despite the name) is one of the best options we Charleston plant-eaters have for more upscaleish dining with lots more than salads on the menu. So I'm not mad. I have lots of respect for guy and his establishments. I'm just disappointed. Maybe the scrambled tofu wasn't selling well. I'm sorry, Mike! I only became a vegan three months ago! I should've been coming in to eat that scrambled tofu on that Israeli pita way earlier! And who knows. Perhaps this is just a temporary change, and we'll be seeing tofu back on the The Daily's menu before too long.
In the meantime, there's still lots left to love at The Daily. There's the locally-grown seasonal produce available, there's the cold case with a few vegan options if you're down to grab & go. There's always a vegan muffin available, and there's a variety of alt-milks on hand for your cappuccinos and cortados. So I'll keep popping in to The Daily for a coffee fix here and there, and I'll be letting you plant eaters know when that scrambled tofu returns. So stay tuned.

When to visit: For a light breakfast (coffee, pastry, tofu-less veggie hash), or to grab something vegan-friendly from the fridge case for a picnic or lunch on the run.
